Talking to the People
We, once again, took our “truth” to the people Friday morning. We spoke at a 7:00 a.m. Breakfast held by the group, Cayce Mafia. The grits were great, the coffee was hot and the response was over-whelming. “Thank you”, Bill West, for your front page article in the Lexington Chronicle concerning this event. We went there asking for money, but ended up giving $100.00 to Scott Morgan of the Harvest Hope Food Bank. I hope to visit the food bank next week. It is heartbreaking to see families who once donated to the food bank, now standing in line to receive help themselves. Our politicians, both Republicans and Democrats alike, just don’t get it. While they argue and fight over power and position, we suffer. And, things are clearly getting worse. Then they have the audacity to tell us, like we saw in the news and newspapers last week, that the recession officially ended the middle of last year. This offends me. All you have to do is look around and talk to your friends and neighbors to understand how asinine it is for them to make such statements. Perhaps the recession ended for them last year as they continue to live well off the sweat of our brows which they call taxes. I have a suggestion for Joe Wilson. Perhaps he should go to Harvest Hope Food Bank in Columbia and see the lines for himself. Perhaps he should go to the unemployment office and see the lines for himself. Perhaps he should have to drive around the District and see all the closed stores and failed businesses. Perhaps he should go to Barnwell and see for himself the locked gates on what once was a thriving textile plant that has been decimated by free-trade agreements such as NAFTA, CAFTA and others that he voted for. Has anyone in his family stood in the food bank line, the unemployment line, tried to make a payroll or find a job in this economy?
Many thanks to Steve, Liz for watching our house when we travel and for all the wonderful people we meet in the District. Corey Hutchins, it was good to see you Friday. Thanks for the press coverage. That’s all for now. Marc Beaman, Constitution Party Candidate, 2nd Congressional District of South Carolina
